Dieterich Wins NTC Boys Seventh-Grade Tourney; St. Anthony Drops Two

Dieterich took a 13-7 opening quarter lead and went on for a 38-22 win over Stewardson-Strasburg to claim the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament title Thursday evening.

Dieterich held a 26-17 halftime lead then had a 10-3 third quarter run to put the game on ice. Radloff tallied 18 for the winners while Campton added nine. Kramer led Stew-Stras with nine points.

Third Place Game

Altamont led 19-7 after the first half and had a 16-3 third period surge to down St. Elmo/Brownstown 40-18 in the third place contest.

Brown tallied 10, Vaughn nine, Pemberton eight and Stevenson eight for the winners. Brown scored seven to lead St. Elmo/Brownstown.

Consolation Championship

Neoga claimed the consolation championship 47-31 over Cowden-Herrick.

Neoga took a 21-5 opening quarter lead but Cowden-Herrick came back to trail only 27-20 at halftime. Neoga then held Cowden-Herrick scoreless in the third quarter to push ahead 41-20 going into the final period.

Ramert led Neoga with 20 points while Hansen chipped in with 12. Rauch led Cowden-Herrick with 13.

At St. Anthony

Charleston came calling at St. Anthony and picked up a 40-29 victory in seventh-grade play.

Charleston held an 11-3 opening quarter lead and led 19-13 at halftime. The two teams played to a 9-9 tie in the third quarter before Charleston had a 12-7 edge in the final period.

It was the first loss of the season for the Bullpups who drop to 8-1.

In eighth-grade action, Charleston claimed a 52-17 victory. St. Anthony drops to 5-4.
