The Effingham Lady Hearts appear headed for a good basketball season. One key to their success is inside player Shelby Myers.

Shelby has one less thing on her mind after signing her letter of intent to play college basketball for Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. She indicated that being able to focus on the coming season was a factor in going ahead with the signing. She also, though, said she liked the campus and the school and the Drury coaches and team members.

Myers' signing was the second with a Springfield-based school by an EHS athlete in a week, following Mason Hull's signing with Missouri State to play baseball. She said she and Mason had talked about that since the schools are literally across the street from each other.

Shelby said she likes the way the Drury staff plan to utilize her talents, playing to her strengths, something she said coaches have done throughout her career.

As for her education, Myers said she's looking at pre-med with an eye toward pediatrics.

Shelby is the daughter of Randy and Deanna Myers.
