MARSHALL -- Effingham Junior High School competed in the Marshall Girls Basketball Shootout Saturday.
In the eighth-grade shootout, the Mustangs downed Salt Fork in the opener 41-18. Effingham took a 16-6 opening quarter lead and went on for the 23 point victory margin. Schaefer tallied 12 for the winners.
In the second contest, Marshall was a 29-25 winner over Effingham. The Mustangs held a 10-5 opening quarter lead and led 16-9 at halftime. Marshall came back with a 12-2 third period run.
Schaefer tallied six for the Mustangs who are now 10-6 on the season.
In the seventh-grade shootout, Effingham was a 48-10 winner over Salt Fork. The Mustangs ripped out to a 23-0 opening quarter lead. Niebrugge scored 12 points for the Mustangs.
In the game against Marshall, Effingham claimed a 41-9 victory and now stands at 14-1 on the season.
The Mustangs held a 20-4 halftime lead. Niebrugge scored 14 while Woomer added eight for the winners.

At Olney
Olney played host to Jasper County and claimed two victories Saturday.
Olney won the seventh-grade contest 29-27. Olney held a 15-9 halftime lead and only a 19-18 lead going into the final quarter but held on for the win.
MacKenzie Milker led Jasper County with seven points.
In the eighth-grade game, Olney was a 59-31 winner. Sydney Dobbins led Jasper County with nine points.
