DIETERICH -- Newton St. Thomas won the Dieterich Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday.

St.Thomas downed Dieterich 30-25. Leo Weber tallied 10 for the winners while Mason Schafer also had 10.

In the 33-26 win over Clay City, Schafer scored 12 and Kye Bergbower six.

 

At Newton

Oblong came calling and Jasper County sent them home with two defeats.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade game 32-3. Reynolds led the way with six points for the winners.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County stepped out to a 12-1 first quarter lead and went on for a 31-14 victory. Schafer scored 10 for the winners.

At Nokomis

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City started its season off at the Nokomis Eighth-Grade Tournament by downing the host squad 45-22.

CHBC took a 16-11 first half lead then had a whopping 20-4 third period. Daniel Lucas scored 11.

The Bobcats will play Wednesday at 7:15 in the championship bracket against Pana St. Pat's. Pana St. Pat's defeated Staunton 51-15.

At Neoga

Altamont and Neoga split victories Monday evening.

Altamont captured the seventh-grade contest 41-6  Altamont took a 22-4 halftime lead. Hammer tallied 16 for the winners while Kollmann added eight.

Neoga was led by Richards with four.

In the eighth-grade contest, Neoga picked up a 35-23 victory. Altamont held a 7-6 opening quarter lead but the score was tied at 15-15 at halftime.

Neoga then had a 15-4 third period run for the 35-23 victory. McClure scored 15 and Romack 10 for the winners.

Altamont was led by Suckow with 10.
