EHS Girls Drop Close One to Olney

OLNEY -- Effingham traveled to Olney for a Saturday girls high school basketball Apollo Conference contest and fell to the Tigers 58-54.

The Hearts took a 14-11 opening quarter lead and held a 22-18 halftime lead. Olney came back with a 17-14 third period run to trail 36-35 going into the final quarter. The Tigers then outscored the Hearts 23-18 to pull out the four-point victory.

Effingham was led by Stephanie Robb with 11 points and Josie Zerrusen with 10. Kelli Utz had eight assists.

Olney was led by Shipman with 16, Miller with 15 and Gassman with 14.

Effingham drops to 0-1 in the Apollo Conference, 4-3 overall. Olney improves to 7-1. Effingham is back in action Thursday against Mattoon.
