EIU Women Fall to Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The Panther women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a hot shooting No. 25 Dayton squad, falling 105-42 at the Marriott Classic in Dayton, Ohio. EIU falls to 2-3 on the year.

The Flyers (6-0) opened the game going 17-for-20 from the floor, taking a 39-10 lead over the Panthers with just under seven minutes on the clock in the first half. Dayton finished the half hitting 80 percent of its shots (24-for-30) to post a 56-21 halftime advantage over EIU.

Dayton never cooled off in the second stanza, hitting 57 percent of its shots (21-for-37). The nationally ranked Flyers finished the day going 45-for-67 from the floor as they hit 67.2 percent of their field-goal attempts.

Sydney Mitchell led the Panther offense with nine points. Both Jordyne Crunk and Mariah King added eight points in the loss. Mitchell also led the Panthers on the glass with a team-high six rebounds. Offensively, the Panthers posted a season-low 24.2 field-goal percentage (15-for-62).

Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova led the Flyers with a game-high 21 points on 9-for-9 shooting. Ally Malott, the Marriott Classic Tournament MVP, posted a double-double in the Dayton win with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

At the conclusion of the Marriott Classic, King and Nixon were named to the six-person all-tournament team.  Dayton’s Cornelie-Sigmundova, Malott (MVP) and Kelley Austria were also named to the team along with Buffalo’s Mackenzie Loesing.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday, Nov. 9 when they play host to IUPUI at 7 p.m. inside Lantz Arena.
