Dieterich, Newton Winners at Cumberland Tourney

TOLEDO -- Dieterich handed Martinsville a 74-39 loss while Newton beat Oblong 62-49 in Tuesday night action at the Cumberland Boys Thanksgiving Tournament. Also picking up wins were Palestine/Hutsonville 53 over Cumberland 45 and Hume Shiloh downing Chrisman 43-32.
Dieterich 74, Martinsville 39
Dieterich took a 17-12 opening quarter lead and then outscored Martinsville 28-13 in the second quarter to put the game away.
D. Hinterscher led the way with 24 points while teammate A. Bushue tallied 12 and T. Traub 11. Martinsville was led by Zach Mulkins with 18 and Chris Lee with 11.
Palestine/Hutsonville 53, Cumberland 45
Palestine/Hutsonville took a quick lead on the Pirates and led 41-19 at halftime. Cumberland then got unwound and outscored Palestine/Hutsonville 26-12 in the second half but couldn't overcome that first half deficit.
Graham Alspach tallied 14 and Landon Williams 10 for the winners. Trevor Brumleve scored 16 for Cumberland.
Newton 62, Oblong 49
Dylan Johnson scored six as Newton edged ahead 17-14 in the opening quarter against Oblong. Oblong came back with a 14-11 second period run to knot the score at 28-28 at halftime.
Newton then ran off 22 points in the third period to push ahead 50-41 as Corey Davidson scored nine. Luke Stone then tallied six in the final period as the Eagles had a 12-8 run.
Davidson finished with 18 points while Stone tallied 12 and Knepper added 10.
