Effingham Seventh-Graders Win

The Effingham seventh-grade boys basketball team improved it's season record to 4-2 with a two point victory over Champaign Edison Saturday in Champaign.

It was a close game throughout and with seven seconds left in the game and the score tied at 40-40, Matthew Robinson pulled down an offensive rebound and put it back in with five seconds left for the win. Ryan Sandifer and Mason Hull both scored 12 to lead the team.

The seventh-graders return to action Tuesday with a "B" game against Mattoon.

The eighth-grade squad fell to Champaign Edison 54-45. Brent Beals tallied 17 for the Mustangs while Grant Wolfe added 13. Effingham drops to 5-1.

At Sacred Heart

Effingham Sacred Heart and St. Elmo/Brownstown split wins Friday evening. St. Elmo/Brownstown was a 32-9 winner in seventh grade action. Brown tallied 14 and Maxey 10 for the winners. Sacred Heart was led by Helmink with four.

In eighth-grade action, Sacred Heart won 30-24. Schafer scored 10 and Tegeler eight for the Shamrocks. Kroll led St. Elmo/Brownstown with six.
