The Illinois Fighting Illini got their men's basketball season off to a good start Friday night, winning over Colgate 75-55 at Assembly Hall.  It was the first contest for the Illini under new men's coach John Groce.

Brandon Paul led the way for Illinois with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Tracy Abrams added 13 points.

The Jay Spoonhour era at Eastern Illinois didn't begin quite as well Friday.  Bradley won over the Panthers 76-53.
