Lanphier Wins At EHS Sectional, Mount Carmel To State in 2A

Springfield Lanphier picked up an opening round victory in the Class 3A Effingham Boys Basketball Sectional Tuesday evening.

Lanphier downed Champaign Central 82-59. Lanphier headed off to a 19-12 opening quarter lead but Champaign Central came back with an 18-8 second period run to pull within 30-27 at halftime.

Rose tallied 11 points in the opening quarter for Lanphier and seven in the second period. Rose broke loose again with 12 in the third quarter and Lanphier took off with a 24-13 run to lead 51-43 going into the final quarter.

Rose finished with 34 points while Williams added 25 and McGee 12 for the winners.

Tonight's game features Mount Zion against Decatur Eisenhower at 7.

Springfield Lanphier will take on the winner of tonight's game at 7 p.m. Friday for the sectional championship.

 

Class 2A Super-Sectionals

In the second game behind Effingham St. Anthony's contest in Class 1A at the Carbondale (SIU) Super-Sectional was the Mount Carmel 61-40 win over Alton Marquette in Class 2A.

Justin Carpenter tallied 14 points and had nine rebounds for the winners.

In other Class 2A super-sectionals, Monticello beat Quincy Notre Dame 51-49 at Springfield (UIS), Kankakee McNamara downed Rockford Christian 79-75 at DeKalb (NIU) and Chicago Orr bounced Chicago Collins Academy 72-34 at Joliet Central.

Friday's Class 2A State Tournament will feature Kankakee McNamara against Mount Carmel at 5:30 p.m. followed by Chicago Orr taking on Monticello at 7:15 p.m.
