It was anybody's game at halftime, but it was all Teutopolis in the second half as the Wooden Shoes defeated the Cumberland Pirates 66-41 in semifinal action at the Pana 2A Regional. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Shoes outscored the Pirates 20-7 in the third quarter to break open a five-point game at the half. T-Town led 18-15 after one quarter and 30-25 at intermission before the big third period. The Shoes posted a 16-9 fourth quarter edge to win the game by 25 points.

Cumberland scored the first basket of the game on a three-pointer by Zach Wolke. The Shoes came back to push ahead 9-6 but another three-pointer, this one by Connor Butler, tied the score at 11-11.

The Pirates tied the score again in the second quarter at 22-22 on a Tyson Magee free throw. The Shoes then pushed ahead and held a five-point lead at the half on a basket by Brant Bueker.

In the third quarter, Cumberland pulled within 30-29 then the Shoes went on a an eight point run and had the game well in hand from that point on. The Pirates turned over the ball eight times in the third quarter while T-town coughed it up only twice. The Pirates mustered only three of 11 shooting in that third quarter.

Mitch Hardiek scored 17 points to lead Teutopolis, while Brant Bueker scored 12. It was balanced scoring for the rest of the team; Eric Kremer 8, Brock Bueker 7 in his first game back since the bus accident, Lee Hardiek 6, Lucas Deters 5, Dawson Smith 4, Clint Weber 3, Lane Belleville and Blake Mette 2 each.

"Cumberland took advantage of our mistakes," said T-town Coach Jason Hanson. "They got to the line and we had only two shots at the line in the first half. We've played well the last two to three weeks defensively but I was disappointed in our defense tonight. We've got to get better."

Zach Wolke scored 17 points to pace Cumberland, while Tyson Magee added 11 points. Also for the Pirates: Connor Butler 5, Mike Wolke 4, and Gabe Hatfill and Brody Donsbach 2 each.

Teutopolis improved to 27-3 on the season and will play in the regional championship game Friday at 7pm against the winner of Wednesday night's Pana/Shelbyville game. Cumberland finishes 16-12 and says goodbye to seniors Brody Donsbach, Mike Wolke and Cole Willenborg.
