T-town Captures Eighth-Grade State Title

Teutopolis Junior High School captured the eighth-grade boys basketball state championship Thursday.
TOLONO UNITY -- Teutopolis edged Burr Ridge Middle School 35-34 to capture the Class 8-3A State Boys Basketball championship Thursday evening at Tolono Unity Junior High School.
The Wooden Shoes took a 16-13 opening quarter lead and led 23-18 at halftime. T-town led 30-23 going into the final quarter. Burr Ridge came roaring back with an 11-4 run to knot the score at 34-34, sending the game into overtime.
In the overtime session, only one point was scored and that was by T-town at the free throw line for the victory.
Jordan Hardiek tallied 10 for the Shoes while Evan Wermert chipped in with eight and Hayden Ruholl added seven.
T-town finishes the season with a 24-4 record.
Third place went to Clifton Nash over Wenona Fieldcrest in another close contest, 41-39.
The Teutopolis eighth-grade team will be welcomed home Sunday with a reception and parade. There will be a fire truck ride and parade through Teutopolis at 12:30 p.m. Then a return to Teutopolis Junior High School for a brief ceremony at 1 p.m. A cake and punch reception will follow at 1:30 p.m.
