Bulldogs Nip Altamont; Other Tuesday, Feb. 14 Scores

The St. Anthony Bulldogs edged the Altamont Indians 62-61 in a battle of conference unbeatens Tuesday night. The contest, on Senior Night in Altamont, was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
The victory gives St. Anthony the regular season National Trail Conference championship after having defeated Altamont in the conference tournament championship two weeks ago.
Neither team led by more than five points in the contest. Altamont scored the first bucket, but St. Anthony then scored eight straight points before Altamont closed to within 13-11 after one quarter. Altamont then outscored the Bulldogs 15-12 in the second period to lead 26-25 at halftime.
St. Anthony outscored Altamont 17-13 in the third quarter to lead 42-39 at the end of the period. The Bulldogs could never put the Indians away, though, with Altamont outscoring the Bulldogs 22-20 in the final period to make it a one-point final. Sam Childerson's three at the buzzer left Altamont one point shy.
St. Anthony shot 46% from the field, 21 of 46, including 3 of 13 threes. The Bulldogs made 17 of 24 foul shots, turned the ball over 11 times, and grabbed 31 rebounds.
Altamont shot 50% from the field, 26 of 52, including 4 of 16 threes. The Indians made 5 of 7 foul shots, committed 13 turnovers, and pulled down 27 rebounds.
St. Anthony's lone senior, Drew Gibson led all scorers with 28 points, including 14 of 18 from the foul line. Alex Deters scored 13 for the Bulldogs, including nine points in the fourth quarter. Also for the Bulldogs: Adam Levitt 8 with 8 rebounds, Cade Walsh 7, and Alex Beesley, Jack Nuxoll and Wyatt Lawrence with 2 each.
Ryan Armstrong, Altamont's all-time career scoring leader, finished with 25 points before fouling out with 2:30 remaining. Sam Childerson finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Mitchell Stevenson scored 10 points. Also for the Indians: Evan Cornett 8 with 7 rebounds, Drake Williams 5, and Wyatt Stone 2.
St. Anthony improved to 23-4 with regular season game remaining; Friday night will be Senior Night as the Bulldogs host Casey-Westfield. Altamont closes out its regular season at Windsor Friday against Windsor/Stew-Stras.
