Effingham and Altamont split freshman/sophomore boys basketball wins Monday evening.

Altamont picked up the freshman contest 51-40. The Indians stepped out to a 16-10 opening quarter lead but Effingham came back to pull within 24-22 at halftime. The Hearts trailed by that same two-point margin going into the final period.  Altamont then had a 16-7 run.

Altamont was led by Denver Duckwitz with 15 points, Donovan Delaney with 11 and Aiden Jahraus with 10.

Effingham was led by Utz and Kalber with nine each.

In the sophomore contest, Effingham claimed a 60-53 victory. The Hearts held a 20-16 halftime lead then had a 23-17 third period run. Altamont came back in the final quarter only to fall short.

Hagler tallied 23 and Jackson 12 for the Hearts. Altamont was led by Alex Biggs with 35.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up a 61-40 victory over Olney in freshman boys basketball competition Monday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 34-15 halftime lead. Olney came back with a 19-13 third period run but the Shoes got back on track with a 14-6 final period.

Mitch Hardiek tallied 16 while Mitch Hemmen chipped in with 13 for the Shoes.
