Shoes Move Into Class 8-3A State Tourney Title Game

TOLONO -- Teutopolis moved into the championship game at the Class 8-3A State Boys Basketball Tournament with two victories Saturday.

In the opener, T-town beat Mossville 56-23. The Shoes led 30-15 at halftime then had a 26-8 second half.

Evan Addis tallied 24 for the Shoes while Matthew Deters added 12 and Jordan Hardiek chipped in with 10.

In the second game, T-town defeated Clifton Nash 32-21. T-town edged out to a 5-4 opening quarter lead but Clifton Nash came back to tie the score at 12-12 at halftime. T-town then moved ahead by two points going into the final quarter and had an 11-2 run.

Evan Wermert tallied 14 and Deters 12 for the Shoes.

In other games, Clifton Nash downed Vandalia 45-39, Wenona Fieldcrest beat Pleasant Plains 38-35 and Burr Ridge downed Maroa-Forysth 34-32 in opening round play. In the other semifinal contest, Burr Ridge edged Wenona Fieldcrest 33-32.

The third place game Thursday will feature Clifton Nash against Wenona Fieldcrest at 6 p.m. followed by T-town taking on Burr Ridge at 7:30. T-town is now 23-4 on the season while Burr Ridge is 21-2.

Class 8-1A State Tournament

Sigel St. Michael saw its stay at the Class 8-1A State Tournament at Illinois Weslayen University in Bloomington came to a quick end Saturday.

The Sharpshooters fell to Ottawa Marquette 53-32 in a first-round contest.

Ottawa Marquette stepped out to a 13-5 opening quarter lead but the Sharpshooters came back with a 14-9 run to pull within 22-19 at halftime. Marquette then put the contest away with a 19-2 third quarter.

St. Michael was led by Justin Ruholl with eight points. Craig Croy and Max Niebrugge chipped in with seven each. The Sharpshooters end the season with a 20-6 record.

In other scores, Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes beat Virginia 46-26, Pontiac St. Mary's downed Lincoln Carroll Catholic 54-49 and Peoria Limestone Walters won over Cissna Park 47-31.

In the semifinals, Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes downed Pontiac St. Mary's 42-27 and Peoria Limestone Walters defeated Ottawa Marquette 50-29.

Pontiac St. Mary's faces Ottawa Marquette for third place at 6 p.m. Thursday while Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes will take on Peoria Limestone Walters at 7:30 p.m. for the state championship.
