St. Anthony Outduels Altamont for 1A Regional Championship

The St. Anthony Lady Bulldogs captured another Class 1A Regional championship Thursday night with a hard-fought 37-34 victory over the Altamont Lady Indians. It is the Lady Bulldogs' fourth straight regional championship.

The contest at St. Anthony's Enlow Center was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The contest was close throughout and each team shared numerous leads.

St. Anthony worked to take a 12-8 lead after one quarter and pushed their lead to 25-19 at halftime. Altamont battled back, though, to trail just 32-30 after three quarters. The Bulldogs outscored Altamont 5-4 in the fourth quarter to win the game by three points.

Abby Weis led St. Anthony with 10 points, while Clare McHugh scored eight points. Also for St. Anthony: Abby Schmidt 5, Meg Richards and Shea Kinkelaar each 4, and Olivia Clausius, Sydney Gibson and Keri McGuire 2 each.

Altamont's Keidron Duckwitz led all scorers with 17 points. Also for Altamont: Tinley Mette 6, Carly McHugh 5, and Shelbi Stone, Leah Mayhaus and Joanna Schultz 2 each.

St. Anthony made just 12 of 38 shots, 32%, including 1 of 7 threes. The Bulldogs made 12 of 22 foul shots, turned the ball over 16 times and grabbed 25 rebounds.

Altamont made 13 of 34 shots, 38%, including 2 of 9 threes. The Lady Indians made 6 of 8 foul shots, turned the ball over 22 times and pulled down 25 rebounds.

St. Anthony improved to 22-8 on the season and heads to Arcola for sectional action Monday at 6pm against Tri-County.

Altamont ends its season at 17-10 and says goodbye to seniors Keidron Duckwitz and Brooke Burns.

Altamont's Jacie Hosick and Dieterich's Jennifer Robards advanced to Sectional competition in the Country Financial Three-Point Challenge.
