TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis and Marshall split two exciting boys freshman/sophomore basketball games Tuesday evening.
In freshman action, T-town connected on a layup with one second left in double overtime to edge Marshall, 59-58.
Marshall edged out to a 11-10 opening quarter lead and led by that same one point margin 23-22 at halftime. T-town came back with a 17-11 run in the third quarter to pull ahead 39-34 but Marshall rallied for a 12-7 final quarter to knot the score at 52-52. In the first overtime session both teams tallied seven points. In the second overtime, Mitch Hardiek nailed five points and Brock Deters a basket.
Mitch Hemmen tallied 19 while Mitch Hardiek added 15 and Brock Deters 12.
In the sophomore contest, T-town fell to Marshall. The Runnin' Lions were down by two with three seconds remaining and hit a three-point basket to pull out the 55-54 victory.
Marshall ran off to a 20-6 opening quarter lead but T-town came back within 26-24 at halftime. The Shoes then had a 20-8 third period run to lead 44-34. But here came Marshall with a 21-10 final quarter.
Andrew Simmons tallied 22 to lead the Shoes while Lucas Deters added 18.
