Altamont in Championship Game at NTC Tourney; Other Friday 1-27-2017 Basketball Scores

It'll be the Altamont Indians taking on the St. Anthony Bulldogs for the championship of the National Trail Conference Tournament Saturday night.

Altamont posted a convincing 56-38 win over the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets Friday night to advance to the championship game. The other contest saw the CHBC Bobcats defeat the Neoga Indians 68-49 to move into the consolation championship game. 

Altamont steadily pulled away throughout their game, taking a 10-0 lead out of the gate. The Hatchets pulled within 12-6 after one quarter, but the Indians then started putting some distance between themselves and the Hatchets. It was 24-14 at halftime and 40-27 after three quarters before Altamont outscored Windsor/Stew-Stras 16-11 in the fourth quarter. Altamont led by as many as 22 points.

Altamont hit 59% of its shots from the field, 22 of 37, including 4 of 14 threes. The Indians made 8 of 11 foul shots, turned the ball over 15 times, and grabbed 29 rebounds. Windsor/Stew-Stras made 15 of 44 shots from the field, 34%, including 1 of 4 threes. The Hatchets made just 7 of 15 foul shots, turned the ball over 17 times, and pulled down 25 rebounds.

Altamont put three players in double figures; Ryan Armstrong with 17 points, and Mitchell Stevenson and Sam Childerson each with 14 points. Also for Altamont: Drake Williams 7 and Wyatt Stone 4.

No players in double figures for the Hatchets; Christian Kessler 9, Nic Hutchinson 8, Gavin Bennett 7, Josh Overbeck 6, Isaac Kramer 4, and Chase Thies and Blake Nichols with 2 points each.

Altamont is now 12-9, while Windsor/Stew-Stras is 11-9.

Altamont will sell tickets for the championship game Saturday at 11am in the school office. St. Anthony fans, you can still buy tickets between 8 and 10am Saturday at St. Anthony High School.

In the other contest, CHBC led Neoga 18-14 after the first quarter, 38-26 at halftime, and 51-38 after three periods before outscoring the Indians 17-11 in the final quarter.

For CHBC, Konner Blackerby led the way with 21 points, Aaron Nohren scored 14 points, and Cody Grove added 13 points. Also for the Bobcats: Trey Buzzard 6, Mason Stewart 5, Nick Miller 4, Blake Barns 3, and Derek Duckwitz 2.

For Neoga, Caleb Hill led with 14 points. Also for Neoga: Trevor Roy 9, Jackson Clark 8, Evan Fritcher 5, Drew Ramert 4, Clayton Butler 3, and Zack Gresens, Trevor Fletcher and Dylan Milner 2 each.

CHBC shot just under 50% from the field, 25 of 51, including 3 of 11 threes. CHBC did well at the line, making 14 of 17, and committed just seven turnovers while grabbing 34 rebounds.

Neoga made 17 of 51 shots, including 6 of 24 threes, made 8 of 13 foul shots, turned the ball over 12 times, and pulled down 20 rebounds.

CHBC is even on the season at 9-9, while Neoga is now 7-16.
