St. A, North Clay, Newton Pick Up Girls Victories

FARINA -- Effingham St. Anthony put together three big scoring quarters to hand South Central a 58-21 loss in girls National Trail Conference basketball action Monday evening.
The Bulldogs outscored South Central 15-6 in the opening quarter as Olivia Clausius tallied nine of her team's points. The Bulldogs moved into a 31-12 halftime lead with a 16-6 run. Abby Weis scored seven in the run. Then St. Anthony came out in the second half with an 18-6 third quarter as seven players scored.
Clausius was the lone Bulldog in double figures with 15 but Weis and Keri McGuire scored nine each and Abbie Schmidt chipped in with nine.
South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 10 points and Alannah Sigrist with nine.
The Bulldogs improved to 17-8 on the season and will play tonight at Arthur.

At Mattoon
Two top three teams clashed as Mattoon played host to Teutopolis and came out a 66-58 winner Monday evening.
The Green Wave, ranked No. 3 in the Class 3A poll, stepped out to a 16-12 opening quarter lead on the Shoes and led 28-21 at halftime.
T-town, ranked No. 3 in the Class 2A state poll, fought back in the third quarter with a 20-16 run to pull within three points going into the final period. Mattoon then had a 22-17 final period and connected on nine of 11 free throws.
Mattoon was led by Thompson with 24 points and Coffey with 17.
T-town had four players hit double figures. Jamie Sandschafer and Sadie Bueker scored 15 points each while Shelby Thompson added 13 and Raegan Drees 11. Drees had four assists. Sandschafer led in rebounds with six.
The Green Wave remains unbeaten at 22-0 while T-town dropped to 21-5 on the season.

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Dieterich Monday evening, 62-55.
The Cardinals held a 35-25 halftime lead. Dieterich came back with an 18-13 third quarter but the Cardinals had a 14-12 final quarter.
Maddie Craig scored 27 for the winners while Cassidy Coble added 13.
Dieterich was led by Anna Shadle with 16, Jennifer Robards with 15 and Gracie Britton with 13. Cassie Vahling led in rebounds with eight while Shadle pulled down seven. Shadle had five assists. Vahling led in steals with four.
Dieterich drops to 0-5 in the NTC, 4-18 overall.

Jaycie Roy led the Indians with 24 points while Blair Banning added 17.
CHBC was led by Tabitha Endsley with 10 points.

Grace Hartrich scored her 1,000th career point as Newton edged Marshall 49-47 Monday evening.
Hartrich needed just one basket coming into the contest and it came at the start of the second quarter. She finished with a double-double, 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three steals.
Kaitlyn Cohorst tallied 15 points for the winners and had three assists and three steals. Mariah Earnest had four rebounds while Abby Frohning had four assists and two steals.
Newton improved to 18-6 on the season.
Marshall was a winner in the junior varsity contest 31-26.
