Sigel St. Michael Wins Dieterich Tourney; Area Roundup

DIETERICH -- Sigel St. Michael claimed the championship of the Dieterich Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

St. Michael downed Dieterich 50-18 to win the title. In the other contest, Hutsonville was a 38-9 winner over Newton St. Thomas.

At Altamont

Teutopolis and Altamont split victories. T-town was a 46-23 winner in seventh-grade action. Lee Hardiek tallied 13 and Collin Funneman nine for the winners. Runge scored seven for Altamont.

In eighth-grade play, Altamont claimed a 40-21 victory. Armstrong scored 18 and Finn 15 for the winners. Lucas Deters scored nine for T-town.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed an eighth-grade win over Beecher City 40-16. There was no seventh-grade contest played.

Moschenrose led Stew-Stras with 12 points while Overbeck chipped in with nine. Beecher City was led by Cody Grove and Dalton Strauch with six each.

Stew-Stras improved to 2-1 while Beecher City dropped to 0-2.

At Olney

Flora claimed a 41-37 victory over Flora in eighth-grade action Thursday evening.

Flora stepped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead then had to hold off a second half run by Jasper County. Tim Weber led Jasper County with 14 points. Scott led Flora with 14 and Nicholson tallied 11.
