Frosh/Soph Boys Basketball -- Jan. 19

OLNEY -- Effingham St. Anthony traveled to Olney and split freshman/sophomore boys basketball victories with the host school Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs won the freshman game 47-40. The score was tied at 21-21 at halftime. St. Anthony then had a 14-7 third quarter run as the two teams played to a 12-12 final quarter.

Fearday tallied 20 points for the Bulldogs while Tingley chipped in with 12.

In the sophomore game, Olney picked up the 37-33 victory. The Tigers took a 23-16 halftime lead then held off the Bulldogs in the second half.

St. Anthony was led by Dust with 23 points.

At Effingham

Effingham split victories with Charleston in freshman A&B competition Thursday evening.

The Hearts fell in the freshman A contest 68-54. EHS edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead but Charleston came back to take a 23-19 halftime tally. The Trojans then broke the game open with a 30-11 third quarter.

Effingham was led by Kalber with 16 points, Utz with 14 and Niebrugge with 11.

In the B game, Effingham was a 47-39 winner. The Hearts trailed 10-1 after the opening quarter and 18-10 at halftime. EHS came back with a 15-8 third quarter and a 22-13 final period.

Greene tallied 18 and Ritz 11 for the Hearts.
