Area Boys High School Basketball Roundup

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Newton High School traveled to Lawrenceville and fell to the Indians 57-43 Wednesday evening.

Lawrenceville took a 30-19 halftime lead then had a big scoring third quarter with a 19-7 run.

Three players hit double figures for Lawrenceville, Noah Volkman with 19, Zeus Marsh with 17 and Bryce Winningham with 13.

Newton was led by Joe Stone and Nick Cohorst with nine points each.

Patoka came calling and took a 61-42 Egyptian-Illini Conference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Wednesday.

Patoka held a 27-21 halftime lead then had a 34-21 second half run.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Landon Feezel with 18 points and Isaac Maxey with 12. SEB drops to 1-1 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference, 9-6 overall.

Salem Invitational Tournament

Two games were contested Wednesday evening in the Salem Tournament.

Edwardsville claimed a 49-37 win over Mount Vernon while Troy Triad downed Salem 44-39.

The tournament continues tonight as Centralia faces Mattoon at 6:30 followed by Effingham taking on Andrews Osborne at 8.
