T-town Picks Up Win in Nashville Tourney, Boys Roundup

NASHVILLE -- Teutopolis High School opened play in the Nashville Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament with a 73-49 victory over Mascoutah Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes held a 17-10 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 36-24 at halftime.

The Shoes had three players in the double digit bracket. Mitch Hardiek led the way with 25 points as he connected on five three-pointers in 11 attempts. Brant Bueker tallied 16 with four of seven from three-point range and Lane Belleville 12.

Brock Bueker and Belleville had five rebounds each while Hardiek and Chris Ungrund had four each. Ungrund led in assists with four.

Breese Central beat Nashville 45-36 in the other contest.

T-town returns to action Thursday against Breese Mater Dei at 6:30 followed by Mascoutah against Breese Central at 8.

At Altamont

Altamont was a 22-10 leader after the opening period and 52-25 at halftime. The Indians went on to claim an 83-59 National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

The Indians were led by Mitchell Stevenson, a 5-foot-10 junior, with 32 points. He connected on three trifectas and nine of 11 from the free throw line. Also in double figures was Sam Childerson with 14. The Indians improve to 10-8 overall.

CHBC was led by Aaron Nohren with 20 points, Cody Grove with 14 and Konner Blackerby with 11. The highlight for CHBC was Blackerby reaching his 1,000th career point.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg held an 18-15 halftime lead over North Clay (Louisville) then broke loose with a 36-16 second half to pick up a 54-31 National Trail Conference victory.

Thc Hatchets had even scoring up and down the lineup. Josh Overbeck led the way with 13 points while Isaac Kramer added 11, Christian Kessler nine and Chase Thies and Nic Hutchinson with eight each. WSS improves to 4-1 in the conference, 10-7 overall.

The Cardinals were led by Reese Blank with 11 points. North Clay drops to 0-5 in the NTC, 4-13 overall.

 At Farina

Neoga picked up its fifth victory of the season with a 53-50 win over South Central in double overtime Tuesday.

The Cougars held a 15-9 opening quarter lead and led 24-17 at halftime. Neoga came back with a 21-14 second half to tie the score at 38-38 sending the game into the first overtime session. Caleb Hill, Drew Ramert and Jackson Clark scored a basket each for Neoga. South Central's Rryan Matheny connected on an old-fashioned three-point play while Trent Geiler knocked in a three-pointer to send the game into the second overtime.

Neoga's Trevor Roy hit a three-pointer as did Clark in the second overtime period while the Indians hit three free throws and pulled out the 53-50 win.

Hill finished with 18 points while Clark tallied 10 for the winners. Matheny scored 18, Markley 14 and Geiler 12 for the Cougars.

In a non-conference contest, Dieterich picked up a 53-46 win over Oblong Tuesday.

Oblong held an 8-7 opening quarter lead but the Movin' Maroons came back to lead 21-14 at halftime. Oblong mounted a comeback in the third quarter with a 20-15 run to pull within 36-34 going into the final period. Dieterich got itself back on track with a 17-12 final period.

Ryan Radloff tallied 20 points for the winners while Tyler Higgs checked in with 15.

Flora held a 29-15 halftime lead. The Wolves had three players hit double figures. Trevin Smith tallied 16 while Jeffrey Gaither scored 13 and Drew Woodrow 11.

Newton was led by Nick Cohorst with 10 points.

Despite coming back strong in the second half, Cumberland ended up with an 87-79 overtime loss to Arcola Tuesday.

The Purple Riders held a 36-25 halftime lead and led by that same 11-point margin going into the final period. The Pirates then mounted a big comeback with a 26-15 run to knot the score at 66-66 sending the game into the overtime period. Arcola then had a 21-13 run for the victory.

Cumberland was led by Tyson Magee, a 6-foot-2 junior, with 33 points. Zach Wolke chipped in with 20 while Cole Willenborg scored 10.
