BROWNSTOWN -- Two final first round games were contested in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

No. 2 Sigel St. Michael handed North Clay (Louisville) a 67-33 loss. The Sharpshooters edged out to a 17-12 opening quarter lead then had a 25-12 second period to lead 42-24 at halftime. St. Michael then had a 20-7 third period run.

Four players hit double figures for the Sharpshooters. Ruholl tallied 19 to lead the way followed by Croy 14, Cornell 11 and Walk 10. North Clay was led by Bible with 20 points.

In the second game, St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Effingham Sacred Heart 38-33. SEB jumped out to the early 24-11 halftime lead. Sacred Heart mounted a comeback with a 14-5 final period run but couldn't make up that first half deficit.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Rosborough with 16 and McWhorter with 14. The Shamrocks were led by Wallace with 11.

The tournament continues tonight as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City takes on Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:15 p.m. and North Clay will face Sacred Heart at 7:30, both consolation bracket games.

At Paris

Paris Mayo handed Jasper County two losses in action Tuesday evening.

Paris Mayo won the seventh-grade game 24-22. Newton was led by Tharp with 10 points. Jasper County drops to 11-8.

In the eighth-grade game, Paris Mayo picked up 54-30 victory. Millman tallied 10 points for Jasper County which is now 1-18.
