Six Games Were Contested at NTC Girls Tournament

The National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament opened play Monday with six games on tap.

In the opener, South Central downed Dieterich 41-33. The Cougars were led by three players in double figures. Abby Hahn led the way with 15 points while Sidney Wilkins and Allanah Sigrist tallied 10 each.

"The girls played hard during this game and we were happy to get a win," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "Our defensive effort has been much better since we started back with games here in January. This was a great team effort all the way around."

Dieterich was led by Jennifer Robards with nine points.

Altamont then dismantled Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 64-16. The Indians led 37-4 at halftime.

Leah Mayhaus tallied 26 points as the lone player in double figures in the contest. Keidron Duckwitz chipped in with nine while Shelby Stone added eight. CHBC was led by Grace Smith and Tabitha Endsley with four each.

Neoga claimed a 56-45 win over North Clay (Louisville). The Indians trailed 25-24 at halftime then had a 21-8 third quarter.

Jaycie Roy scored 18 and Blair Banning 13 for the winners. North Clay was led by Taylor Jones with 16 and Maddie Craig with 11.

Game four went to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg over Brownstown/St. Elmo 54-31. BSE led 19-16 at halftime but WSS had a 38-12 second half run.

Megan Schlechte scored 25 for the winners while Becca Schlechte chipped in with nine and Nikki Trussell eight. BSE was led by Deanna Shelton with 12.

Effingham St. Anthony defeated South Central 36-19. The Bulldogs held a 14-7 halftime lead then had a 13-6 third quarter.

The Bulldogs were led by Abbie Schmidt with 10 points. South Central was led by Hahn and Katlyn Hilmes with six points each.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City ended the evening with a 68-44 win over Dieterich.

Jaelyn Robertson scored 18 while Kylee Wheeler and Felicia Johnson scored 11 each for the winners. Dieterich was led by Gracie Britton with 14 and Robards with 12.

The tournament continues Wednesday as South Central meets Brownstown/St. Elmo at 6 p.m. in consolation bracket play before St. Anthony takes on Windsor/Stew-Stras in winner bracket action at 7:30.
