TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School edged St. Anthony to win the Teutopolis Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening, 43-42.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 17-15 opening quarter before the Bulldogs came back to lead 24-22 at halftime. The Bulldogs then had a 14-6 third quarter to lead 38-28 going into the final period. The Wooden Shoes rallied with a 15-5 run to pull out the victory for the championship. Mitch Hemmen connected on a three-point basket with 8.6 seconds for the victory.

Hemmen tallied 20 for the Shoes while Brock Deters chipped in with 10.

St. Anthony was led by Dust with 17 and Fearday with 11.

In the third place game, Altamont took a victory over Dieterich, no score was reported.

At Effingham

Effingham picked up a 78-38 win over Robinson in freshman competition Thursday evening.

The Hearts stepped out to a 31-15 halftime lead and had a 30-23 second half. Pemberton tallied 15 for the winners while Kalber added 13, Utz 10 and Waldhoff 10.

Robinson was led by Parker with 13.
