EHS Handily Beats Rams, Area Basketball Roundup

Effingham High School handily defeated Mount Vernon 69-41 in a non-conference boys basketball matchup Tuesday evening.
The Hearts edged out to a 12-10 opening quarter lead as Landon Wolfe connected for five points. The Hearts then went on a tear, ripping off a 31-10 second period. Grant Wolfe went to town, knocking in four baskets, including a three-pointer and was two of two at the line for 11 points. L. Wolfe also had a good quarter with seven points and Brent Beals knocked in two three-pointers.
Effingham then had an 18-14 third period as Jacob Donaldson tallied seven points.
The Hearts finished with four players in double figures. Donaldson ended up leading the pack with 18 points while G. Wolfe scored 17, L. Wolfe 16 and Beals 10.
Mount Vernon was a winner in junior varsity play, 53-49.

At Mattoon
Teutopolis High School just keeps rolling. The Wooden Shoes picked up an easy 68-25 win over Mattoon in action Tuesday evening.
The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 38-16 halftime lead and had a 21-3 third period. Twelve players scored for the Shoes.
Mitch Hardiek led the way with 16 points while Brant Bueker tallied 12.
T-town improves its record to 15-1 on the season and won't return to action until next Tuesday when it competes in the Nashville Invitational Tournament agianst Mascoutah.
The Shoes also nabbed the junior varsity contest to improve to 6-0.

South Central pulled out a 58-56 National Trail Conference victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Tuesday evening.
The Hatchets took an 18-14 opening quarter lead and still led 31-28 at halftime. South Central came back with a 21-13 third quarter to lead 49-44 going into the final quarter. WSS came back with a 12-9 run only to fall a basket short.
Three players scored in double figures for the Cougars. Trent Geiler tallied 17, Trevor Markley 14 and Logan Lotz 11. South Central improves to 1-2 in the conference, 7-7 overall.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Isaac Kramer with 17 and Gavin Bennett with 12. The Hatchets drop to 3-1 in the conference, 9-7 overall.
South Central won the junior varsity game 40-37.

The Rams took control early with a 25-14 opening quarter and led 46-30 at halftime. Three Rams players scored over 20 points each. Turner Pullen scored 24, Malcom Miller 23 and Hunter Plummer 21.
CHBC also had three players in double figures, Cody Grove 23, Konner Blackerby 21 and Aaron Nohren 11.

The Eagles took a 16-7 opening quarter lead as Nate Meinhart tallied six points. The lead stood at 28-13 at halftime. Newton then had a 29-23 second half.
Only one player hit double figures as 11 players scored for Newton. Nick Cohorst led the way with 10 points. Meinhart chipped in with nine and Ben Carr had eight.
