MATTOON -- Effingham Junior High School's eighth-grade boys basketball team fell to host Mattoon 30-27 in B competition Saturday.

The Mustangs held a 16-11 halftime lead but Mattoon came back with a 14-11 third quarter and held the Mustangs scoreless in the final period.

Effingham was led by Lee with 11 points as the squad dropped to 1-2.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Effingham St. Anthony in action Saturday then split wins with East St. Louis Mason Clark. St. Anthony split victories with Mason Clark.

T-town won the seventh-grade contest over the Bullpups 38-36. Magee led the Shoes with 16 points. St. Anthony was led by Williams and Kemme with seven each.

In the eighth-grade contest, Teutopolis picked up a 44-33 win. T-town held a 24-14 halftime lead. Niebrugge tallied 13 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Wiedman with 14.

Mason Clark claimed the seventh-grade victory over T-town 29-27. Mason Clark took a 14-11 opening quarter lead then held T-town scoreless in the second period. The Shoes were led by Bushur with 16 points.

In eighth-grade play, T-town nabbed a 37-34 win. The two teams were tied at 13-13 in the opening quarter and T-town went ahead 17-16 at halftime.T-town held a 28-20 lead going into the final period and held on for the victory.

Addis tallied 13 and M. Deters 12 for the Shoes.

St. Anthony fell in seventh-grade play against Mason Clark 50-42. Niebrugge tallied 14 and Mendella scored 11.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony edged Mason Clark 39-36. The Bullpups trailed Mason Clark 25-24 at halftime and by the same one point margin going into the final period then had a 10-6 run for the win.

Antrim scored 16 and Walsh 11.
