St. Anthony Girls Claim Wins; BCCH Drops Two

SHELBYVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School edged Shelbyville 18-16 in seventh-grade girls basketball action Tuesday.
The Bullpups edged out to a 2-0 first quarter lead and led 8-2 at halftime. Shelbyville came back to take a 12-11 lead going into the final quarter when St. Anthony had a 7-4 run to pull out the victory. Olivia Clausius led the winners with seven points while Mary Ann Saba tallied six.
In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony picked up a 32-9 victory. The Bullpups led 16-2 at halftime and never looked back. Two players scored in double figures. Abbie Schmidt led the way with 14 while Jenna Woltman tacked on 11.

Pana handed visiting Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick two losses. Pana won the seventh-grade contest 34-11. Schoonover led the winners with 10 points. BCCH was led by Amanda Smith with five.
In eighth-grade play, Pana was a 22-12 winner. Weishaar tallied seven for the winners. BCCH was led by Hope Barnes with six.
BCCH is 2-12 in seventh-grade play, 5-9 in eighth-grade.

Jasper County picked up two victories over Lawrenceville Tuesday evening.
Jasper County won the seventh-grade contest 24-13. Alexis Cox tallied eight points for the winners.
In eighth-grade play, Jasper County was a 38-31 winner. Ariel Richards tallied 26 of her team's total 38 points.
