Newton Beats Dieterich for Tourney Title

DIETERICH -- Newton High School downed Dieterich 51-32 to win the Dieterich Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament championship Thursday.

The Eagles trailed Dieterich 13-6 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 22-19 at halftime. Both teams scored eight points in the third quarter. Newton then blew the game wide open with a 21-5 final period.

Joe Stone, a 5-foot-11 senior, led the way with 16 points while Collin Harris chipped in with 12.

Dieterich was led by Ryan Radloff with 16.

In the third place contest, Oblong defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 72-52.

Oblong led 31-26 at halftime then had a 41-26 second half run.

CHBC was led by Konner Blackerby with 16 points, Aaron Nohren with 13 and Cody Grove with 10.

Okaw Valley was a 51-47 winner over Arcola for fifth place.

North Clay (Louisville) claimed the seventh place contest over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 49-47.

CORL led 14-12 after one period and 23-17 at halftime. North Clay came back with an 18-14 third quarter run and outscored CORL 14-10 in the final period to pull out the two point win.

The Cardinals were led by three players in double figures. Reese Blank led the way with 14 points while Bryce Walker added 13 and Kyle McKnelly 11.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Dawson Maus of Oblong who claimed the Most Valuable Player honors, Blake  Lindenmeyer of Arcola, Konner Blackerby and Aaron Nohren of CHBC, Ryan Radloff, Callaway Campton and Tyler Higgs of Dieterich, Bryce Holkenbrink of North Clay and Collin Harris and Nicholas Cohorst of Newton.
