St. Anthony Nabs Vandalia Crown, Area Boys Roundup

VANDALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School captured the championship of the Vandalia Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday.
The Bulldogs easily handled Pana 75-48 for the crown. St. Anthony took a 14-12 opening quarter lead and led 30-21 at halftime.
St. Anthony then had a 23-12 third period and outscored the Panthers 22-15 in the final quarter.
Five players hit double figures for the Bulldogs. Drew Gibson led the way with 16 points while Alex Deters tallied 14, Alex Beesley 13, Adam Levitt 11 and Jack Nuxoll 10. Nuxoll pulled down seven rebounds.
Gibson was named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and named to the All-Tournament Team along with teammate Deters.
The Bulldogs are now 14-1 and back in action in regular season play Tuesday at North Clay (Louisville).
Patoka was a winner in the third place game 61-53 over Flora. Vandalia downed Shelbyville 55-44 for fifth place and Father McGivney claimed the seventh place game over Ramsey 47-33.

Tri-County Tournament
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed fifth place at the Tri-County Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday.
The Hatchets edged host Tri-County 56-55. Tri-County took the early 16-10 opening quarter lead. Tri-County held a 29-24 lead at halftime.
Tri-County led 46-37 going into the final quarter. WSS then mounted a 19-9 run to pull out the one point victory.
Four players scored in double figures for the Hatchets. Chase Thies tallied 14 while Christian Kessler added 12, Josh Overbeck 10 and Nic Hutchinson 10.
Paris claimed the championship with a 69-61 overtime win over Chrisman. Westville took third place by downing Hutsonville/Palestine 59-26. Seventh place went to Martinsville over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 40-37.

Monticello Holiday Tournament
The lone team in the Monticello Holiday Tournament was Neoga and the Indians fell in the seventh place game to Sangamon Valley 59-46.
Sangamon Valley held a 28-22 opening half lead then had a 31-24 second half run. Neoga was led by Jackson Clark with 14 and Drew Ramert with 11.
The Indians drop to 4-11 on the season.
Colfax Ridgeview won the Monticello Tournament with a 60-35 win over GCMS. Third place went to Paxton-Buckley-Loda over Monticello 73-55. Argenta-Oreana beat Tuscola 60-48 for fifth place.
