T-town Set for Championship Game, EHS to Play For Third

Teutopolis High School was a winner in two games Wednesday and will now play for the championship of the Effingham/Teutopolis Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament.

In games at Teutopolis, Oaklawn won over Mattoon 67-62, Chicago Brooks beat Madison 56-38 and Lincolnway East downed Altamont 72-46.

Mattoon then beat Altamont 74-59. The Green Wave held a 35-30 halftime lead then had a 29-12 third quarter run.

The Indians were led by Mitchell Stevenson with 17 points, Evan Cornett with 16 and Sam Childerson with 15.

In the contest following, Effingham downed Academy of Law 79-58. The Hearts didn't give their opponents any opportunities as they jumped out to a 23-8 opening quarter lead and led 41-23 at halftime.

Four players connected for double digits for the Hearts. Grant Wolfe led with 21 while Brent Beals added 17, Landon Wolfe 16 and Jacob Donaldson 14. Mason Hull was on the verge of double figures with nine points.

Finishing out at Teutopolis was the Wooden Shoes' 67-38 win over Lincolnway East.

The Shoes trailed Lincolnway East 13-11 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 28-25 at halftime. The Shoes then had a 26-10 third quarter and a 13-3 final period.

Lee Hardiek tallied 13 while Mitch Hardiek had 11 and Lane Belleville 10. Brant and Brock Bueker scored nine points each.

In games at Effingham, the Hearts pounded Charleston 84-37. The Hearts stepped out to a 26-5 opening quarter and put this one away early.

Grant Wolfe tallied 21 for the winners while Landon Wolfe chipped in with 15, Brent Beals 12, and Trevor Kreke and Jacob Donaldson had 10 each.

Teutopolis defeated Oaklawn 63-45. The Shoes went out to a 33-8 opening quarter and put the contest in the win column easily.

T-town had two players hit double digits. Mitch Hardiek scored 20 while Brant Bueker chipped in with 10.
