Six Games Played at Dieterich Girls Tournament

DIETERICH -- Six games were contested Tuesday at the Dieterich Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament.

In the opener, Newton handily defeated Dieterich 50-17. The Eagles held a 32-3 halftime lead.

Only one Newton player reached double figures as nine total scored. Kaitlyn Cohorst, a 5-foot-8 senior, led the way with 14.

Dieterich was led by Anna Shadle with seven points.

Brownstown/St. Elmo took the second contest 48-22 over South Central. BSE held a 20-14 halftime lead then had an 18-1 third period surge.

BSE was led by Claire Wilhour, a freshman, with 18 points. South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 13.

North Clay (Louisville) then defeated Casey-Westfield 46-40. The Cardinals stepped out to a 20-13 halftime lead then had to hold off the Warriors in the second half.

Taylor Jones led the winners with 16 points while Audrey Fleener chipped in with 13.

Arcola defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 54-42. CHBC held a 29-21 halftime lead but Arcola had a whopping 23-4 run in the third quarter.

CHBC was led by Taylor Oldham with 17.

Casey-Westfield then defeated South Central 60-29. The Warriors held a 27-11 halftime lead then had a 16-9 third quarter.

South Central was led by Hahn with 19 points.

The final game of the evening saw CHBC defeat Dieterich 62-42. Dieterich led 13-12 after the opening quarter but trailed CHBC 27-19 at halftime. CHBC then had a 35-23 second half run.

CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson and Felicia Johnson with 18 points each.

Dieterich was led by Shadle with 30 points.

Tournament action continues today as South Central faces North Clay at 10 a.m. followed by Newton against CHBC at 11:30, North Clay taking on BSE at 1 p.m., Arcola meeting Newton at 2:30, Brownstown/St. Elmo against Casey-Westfield at 4 and Dieterich against Arcola 5:30.
