Altamont Fourth at Okaw Valley, WSS Falls at Arthur Classic

BETHANY -- Altamont High School finished fourth in the Okaw Valley Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.

Host Okaw Valley handed the Indians a 50-32 loss to take third place. Okaw Valley held a 15-3 opening quarter and led 29-12 at halftime.

Only one player hit double digits for Altamont. Keidron Duckwitz, a 5-foot-6 senior, scored 13 points.

In the championship game, Mount Zion downed Tolono Unity 51-32. The seventh-place contest went to Maroa-Forsyth over Martinsville 55-38.

Arthur Knights Holiday Classic

This tournament got underway Wednesday evening. In the opening game at the West Gym, Chrisman edged Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 41-36.

Chrisman held a 21-18 halftime lead then had a 20-18 second half.

WSS was led by two players in double figures. Nikki Trussell tallied 20 points while Megan Schlechte scored 12.

In the second contest, Tri-County downed Shelbyville 69-23.

In games at the East Gym, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond won over Decatur St. Teresa 52-45 and Cumberland fell to Oakland 59-23.

Oakwood held an 18-11 first quarter lead and led 39-14 at halftime then had a 14-4 third quarter.

Cumberland was led by Danae Sowers with 10 points.

The tournament continues tonight with eight games on tap. At the East Gym, Shelbyville meets Chrisman at 2 p.m. followed by Cumberland against St. Teresa at 3:30, Chrisman against Tri-County at 5 and Cumberland taking on ALAH at 6:30.

In the West Gym, Stew-Stras/Windsor faces Tri-County at 2 followed by ALAH against Oakwood at 3:30, Shelbyville taking on SSW at 5 and Oakwood meeting St. Teresa at 6:30. The tourney ends Friday.
