Altamont Claims Two Wins; Dieterich Tourney Opens

ALTAMONT -- Altamont Junior High School opened the boys basketball season with two victories over Neoga Monday evening.
Altamont claimed the seventh-grade contest 34-26. N. Brown scored 13 and M. Stevenson tallied 12 as Altamont took an 18-5 halftime lead. Brown got the Indians off to a good start with eight points in the first quarter. Neoga came back with a 21-16 second half run but it was too little, too late.
In eighth-grade play, Altamont bounced Neoga 62-18. Altamont zipped out to a 26-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. Finn tallied 20 for the winners while Armstrong chipped in with 16.

Dieterich Tournament
The Dieterich Eighth-Grade Tournament got underway Monday evening.
Sigel St. Michael claimed a 53-21 victory over Newton St. Thomas. In the second game, Hutsonville downed Dieterich 36-29.
