St. A Defeats Dieterich, EHS Downs Mt. Zion, Other Friday Boys Basketball Scores

The St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated the Dieterich Movin Maroons 71-37 in National Trail Conference boys basketball action Friday night. The game at the Enlow Center was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
St. Anthony had a great night shooting the ball, improving over the course of the game. The Bulldogs hit on 28 of 53 shot attempts including nine of 14 threes. In the fourth quarter, St. Anthony hit 10 of 12 shots including both of their threes.
Besides the shooting, St. Anthony turned the ball over just six times, two in the second half, and none in the fourth quarter.
Dieterich shot the ball alright, 45% on 15 of 33 shooting including two of eight threes. Turnovers was the big problem for the Maroons, giving the ball up 21 times. St. Anthony outrebounded Dieterich 17-15.
It was anyone's game after one quarter with St. Anthony ahead 16-14, but a 17-8 second quarter edge left the Bulldogs in front 33-22 at halftime. A 14-9 third quarter edge pushed the advantage to 47-31, and St. Anthony outscored Dieterich 24-6 in the fourth quarter.
Adam Levitt and Drew Gibson shared scoring honors for St. Anthony with 18 points apiece. Three players finished with eight points; Cade Walsh, Alex Deters and Quinton Milleville. Also for St. Anthony: Jack Nuxoll 5, Alex Beesley 4 with a team-leading 6 rebounds, and Ben Strullmyer 2.
Callaway Campton led Dieterich with 18 points. Also for the Movin Maroons: Devin Flach 5, Clayton Mellendorf 4, Ryan Radloff 3, Tyler Higgs 3, Bryce McClain 2 and Randy Brummer 2.
St. Anthony improved to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in the National Trail Conference. Dieterich is 3-6 and 0-4 in the conference.
St. Anthony won the JV game 45-18. For St. Anthony: Bryson Wall 14, Jaccob Dust 12 and Luke Ludwig 10. For Dieterich: Austin Einhorn 7.
At Effingham
Effingham High School handed Mount Zion a 79-64 Apollo Conference loss Friday evening.
The Hearts took a 23-18 opening quarter lead behind Grant Wolfe's three trifectas, a regular basket and two free throws for 13 points.
In the second period the Hearts had a 17-16 edge for a 40-34 halftime lead. EHS then had a 39-30 second half run for the 79-64 win.
Wolfe tallied 27 points, connecting on five three-pointers in the game. Also in double figures were Brent Beals with 20 and Landon Wolfe with 17.

Altamont bounced North Clay (Louisville) 73-37 in action Friday evening.
The Indians ran off to a 49-11 first half lead and never looked back. Three players hit double figures. Evan Cornett tallied 26 while Ryan Armstrong had 11 and Mitchell Stevneson 11.
North Clay was led by Trey Smith with 11.
