Cumberland, Vandalia Claim St. Elmo Tourney Victories

ST. ELMO -- Cumberland and Vandalia picked up victories Wednesday evening at the 57th Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament.

The Pirates stepped out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead on Ramsey. Tyson Magee, a 6-foot-2 junior, connected on five baskets for 10 points in the quarter.

Magee continued his hot scoring with five more baskets in the second period and a free throw for 11 points as the Pirates led 37-21. He finished out with nine points in the third period and two more baskets in the fourth for 34 points.

The Pirates connected on seven three-pointers as seven players hit at least one trifecta.

In the second game, Vandalia picked up an 84-55 win over South Central.

The Vandals had four players score in double figures. Zimmerman tallied 25 while Weil scored 21, Jones 14 and Casey 11.

South Central fell behind 44-29 at halftime. Vandalia then had a 40-26 second half. The Cougars had three players score in double figures. Trevor Markley tallied 13 while Trent Geiler and Logan Lotz tallied 11 each.

Tonight's games will have Clay City against Mulberry Grove at 6:15 p.m. followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:45.
