ALTAMONT -- Altamont and Stewardson-Strasburg split victories in junior high boys basketball competition Tuesday evening.
Stew-Stras was a winner in seventh-grade play 35-13. Stew-Stras held a 15-9 first half lead then exploded with a 20-4 second half.
Wernsing led the way with 16 points while Vonderheide chipped in with 10. Stew-Stras improves to 10-7. Altamont was led by Winn with five.
In the eighth-grade contest, Altamont took a 20-5 opening half lead and went on for a 40-11 victory. Brennan Abendroth tallied 10 points to lead the way while Sam Mathesius, Kaden Eirhart and Hunter Cripe tallied eight each in even scoring for the winners.
Stew-Stras was led by Daniel Riemen with five. The team drops to 1-12.

At Lawrenceville
Lawrenceville played host to Jasper County and sent the Newton-based squad home with two losses Tuesday evening.
Lawrenceville won the seventh-grade game 47-43. Koebele led Jasper County with 12 points. The squad dropped to 8-6 on the season.
In the eighth-grade game, Lawrenceville picked up a 41-23 victory. Einhorn led Jasper County with 11 points as the team fell to 1-13.
