Teutopolis Comes Back to Defeat St. Anthony, Area Scores

The Teutopolis Shoes staged a second half comeback to defeat the St. Anthony Bulldogs 41-31 in girls high school basketball action Monday night.  The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. The game was videotaped and DVDs and flashdrives of the game will be available in the next few days.

St. Anthony jumped out to a 6-0 lead and maintained the advantage throughout the first half, leading 11-9 after one quarter and 21-17 at halftime. Teutopolis' defense started taking a toll in the second half, though. The Lady Shoes outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-6 in the third quarter to take a 31-27 lead and outscored St. Anthony 10-4 in the final quarter to post the 10-point win.

Teutopolis had two heroes on offense as far as putting the ball in the basket. Jamie Sandschafer kept the Lady Shoes close in the first half, scoring 12 of her game-high 18 points before intermission. Sandschafer was 6-of-9 from the field including a three and was 5-of-5 from the line. In the second half, it was Shelby Thompson, back from first half foul troubles, who stepped up, scoring nine of her 11 points in the third quarter when the Lady Shoes came back to take the lead. Also for T-Town: Raegan Drees 3, Macy Michels 3, Sadie Bueker 2, Jolene Bueker 2, and Morgan Mette 2.

St. Anthony was led by Abby Weis who scored nine points and had six assists. Also for the Lady Bulldogs: Olivia Clausius 6, Sydney Gibson 6, Meg Richards 4, Abbie Schmidt 2, Clare McHugh 2, and Keri McGuire 2.

Teutopolis made 14 of 58 shots, 37%, including two of eight threes. The Shoes made 11 of 14 foul shots, turned the ball over 17 times but grabbed 27 rebounds.

St. Anthony also made 37% of its shots, 13 of 35, including one of four threes. The Lady Bulldogs made four of seven foul shots, committed 18 turnovers and pulled down 21 rebounds.

Teutopolis improved to 9-2 on the season, while St. Anthony dropped to 8-4.

Teutopolis won the JV game 46-21.
