Freshman/Sophomore Boys Basketball -- Dec. 8

SULLIVAN -- Effingham St. Anthony easily picked up a 53-25 freshman/sophomore boys basketball win over host Sullivan Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 15-5 opening quarter lead and held Sullivan to one point in the second period to take a 28-6 halftime lead.

Fearday tallied 17 points for the winners while 10 other players scored in the contest.

Effingham captured a 67-37 win over Shelbyville in freshman action Thursday evening.

The Hearts stepped out to a 15-3 opening quarter lead and led 37-15 at halftime and never relented in the second half.

Utz tallied 22 for the winners, connecting on three field goals and 14 of 18 from the free throw line. Also in double figures was Waldhoff with 15.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis and Mount Vernon split freshman A and B victories Thursday evening.

In the A contest, T-town was a 54-43 winner. The Wooden Shoes trailed Mount Venron 34-33 going into the final quarter then had a 21-9 run to pull out the victory.

T-town placed four players in double figures, Mitch Hardiek with 16, Brock Deters with 12, Mitch Hemmen with 11 and Luke Ungrund with 10.

In the B game, Mount Vernon claimed a 34-29 win. T-town led 16-15 at halftime but Mount Vernon came back with an 11-4 third period run. Brock Deters led the way for the Shoes with 12.
