Brownstown Wins NTC Eighth-Grade Girls Tourney Title

BEECHER CITY -- Brownstown claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament championship Saturday at Beecher City High School.

Brownstown edged Altamont 29-26 to win the title. Morgan Brown led the winners with 12 points while Dana Shelton added eight. Brownstown edged out to a 13-12 first half lead then had a 7-5 run in the third quarter.

Leading  Altamont was E. Biggs with 12 points and K. Duckwirtz with eight.

In the third place game, Neoga was a 42-18 winner over Stewardson-Strasburg. Rachel Ewing and Jaycie Roy had 13 points each for the winners. M. Schlechte led Stew-Stras with seven.

The consolation championship went to Effingham Sacred Heart 22-17 over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick. S. Webster scored 11 for the winners. Felicia Johnson had six for BCCH.

In Friday's games, Sacred Heart beat Dieterich 31-11 with S. Webster scoring 15 and Carie 10. Altamont beat Stew-Stras 29-27. E. Biggs tallied 12 and B. Burns 10 for Altamont. Stew-Stras was led by B. Schlechte with 11.

Brownstown beat Neoga 29-27. Brown scored nine and Elisa Baron eight for Brownstown. Chloe Padgett tallied14 for Neoga.
