SANDOVAL -- Sandoval High School played host to South Central and handed the Cougars a 55-44 non-conference girls basketball loss Tuesday evening.
The Blackhawks edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter and then had a big scoring second period to lead 33-15 at halftime. The Cougars actually came back to outscore Sandoval 11-8 in the third period and 18-14 in the final quarter but couldn't make up that second period deficit.
Sandoval had two players hit double figures, Brandt with 12 and Hammer with 10.
South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 26 points. Hahn connected on nine field goals, including two three-pointers, and was six of 12 at the free throw line. The Cougars fall to 1-6 on the season and will be home Thursday to Ramsey.
