Here's a wrap-up of girls high school basketball in the area from Thursday, December 1st:

EFFINGHAM 57, CHARLESTON 46

The Lady Hearts remained undefeated on the season and handed the Lady Trojans their first loss of the campaign in the process.

The game was tied 16-16 after one quarter before Effingham went on a 17-3 run in the second quarter to lead 33-19 at halftime. Charleston pulled to within 47-35 after three quarters and posted an 11-10 edge in the final quarter but the Lady Hearts posted an 11-point win.

Effingham Coach Jeff Schafer said, "It was good to win tonight versus a very good team. Charleston is really good. (Charleston Coach) Jeff Miller has a team that really gets after it and can score; we played well tonight; we got some really easy baskets versus their pressure and just kept playing the whole time the same way. We battled through a lot of foul trouble in the first half and did a great job getting to halftime with the lead. We still have a lot to work on to keep improving. This is one game in a rough Apollo Conference; it was a really important game, it helps you get one step closer to that end result you're looking to achieve".

Carsyn Fearday led a balanced Effingham attack with 13 points, while Miranda Fox and Shelby Myers each added 12 points. Also for Effingham: Aly Armstrong 6, Sidney Webster 5, Bria Barr 4, Natalie Carie 3, Skyler Schafer 2.
