Effingham High School nabbed a girls freshman basketball victory over Effingham St. Anthony Wednesday evening, 38-33.
The Hearts edged out to a 12-11 first quarter lead and then pushed that to 24-16 at halftime. The Bulldogs came back to outscore EHS 17-14 in the second half but couldn't make up that second quarter deficit.
Effingham was led by Herboth with 11 points and Webster with eight.
St. Anthony was led by Taylor Beasley with 13 points.

At Neoga
In freshmen/sophomore boys basketball action Wednesday, Altamont downed Neoga 62-39.
Altamont took a 15-10 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 31-17 at halftime. Altamont had a 22-11 third quarter.
Tony Klitzing tallied 11 for the winners while Noah Teasley added 10.
Neoga was led by Banning with 17 and Deters with 13.
