TOLEDO -- Altamont handed Neoga a 60-32 loss in opening round play of the Cumberland Boys Basketball Turkey Tournament Monday evening. The game was contested at Cumberland High School.

Altamont jumped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one. The Indians' Childerson nailed four baskets and a free throw in the opening quarter for 10 points while Armstrong connected for six points. Armstrong went on to have an eight point third quarter and tallied six more in the final quarter to lead the Indians with 22. Childerson added 18 and Stevenson 10.

Neoga was led by Hill with eight points.

In the second game at the high school, Cumberland edged Casey-Westfield 38-37. The Pirates led 22-21 at halftime then pushed farther ahead, leading 32-29 going into the final quarter. Casey-Westfield came back with an 8-6 final run only to fall short.

Tyson Magee led the winners with 17 points while Mike Wolke added nine.

In action at the junior high school, Newton beat Dieterich 59-42. The Movin' Maroons edged ahead 10-9 after the opening quarter but Newton came back with a 12-6 second period run to lead 21-16 at halftime.

The Eagles then had a 16-10 third quarter and outscored Dieterich 22-16 in the final quarter. Mike Koebele tallied 13 and Collin Harris 11 for the winners. Tim Weber and Nick Cohorst added nine each.

Dieterich was led by Callaway Campton with 18 and Ryan Radloff with 11.

In the second game, Charleston beat Oblong 72-55.

The tournament continues tonight with Altamont against Casey-Westfield at 6 and Cumberland facing Neoga at 7:30 at the high school. Newton meets Oblong at 6 and Charleston takes on Dieterich at 7:30 at the junior high.

Mulberry Grove Thanksgiving Tournament

Play got underway at the Mulberry Grove Tournament Monday with three games on tap.

In the opener, South Central downed North Clay (Louisville) 66-44. The Cougars held an 18-9 opening quarter lead and stood at 40-24 at halftime.

Lotz tallied 16 to lead the Cougars while Markley and Matheny scored 13 apiece. The Cougars connected on nine three-pointers in the contest with Lotz knocking in four, Markley three and Geiler two.

In the second contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Mount Olive 62-61. SEB held a 17-11 first quarter lead but Mount Olive came back to pull ahead 31-24 at halftime. SEB had a 15-11 third period and outscored Mount Olvie 23-19 to pull out the 62-61 win.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Feezel with 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, Maxey with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals, Brown with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals, Kroll with five rebounds and four steals and Brooks with four rebounds and three assists.

The final game featured Ramsey and Patoka and no score was listed.

The tournament continues tonight as North Clay faces Ramsey at 5:15 followed by South Central against Patoka at 6:45 and Mulberry Grove taking on Sandoval at 8:15.

 Cerro Gordo Tournament

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg opened its stay at the Cerro Gordo Tournament with a 59-31 victory over Blue Ridge.

WSS edged ahead 10-9 in the opening quarter. Blue Ridge came back with a 26-23 lead at halftime. The Hatchets then broke loose with a 21-2 third period run and never looked back from that point on.

Chase Thies tallied 15 points while Josh Overbeck added 14 and Christian Kessler 12 for the winners.

Tonight's games feature Decatur Christian against Villa Grove-Heritage at 6 p.m. followed by Cerro-Gordo-Bement against Blue Ridge at 7:30.
