Area Girls Teams Set For Holiday Tourneys

Area high school girls basketball teams are set to begin tournament play next week in five different meets around the state.

Effingham finished second in last year's Bob Kerans Tournament at Newton High School. Flora won the tourney championship.

The Hearts open play Monday against Flora at 6 p.m. EHS will take on Altamont Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then faces Newton at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. EHS finishes out with a contest against Cumberland at 3 p.m. Friday.

Monday, November 21

Taylorville Tournament

Effingham St. Anthony will be taking part in the 23rd Annual Taylorville Tornadoes Holiday Tournament which begins this Friday.

The Bulldogs will take on Mount Zion in the opening game Friday at 5 p.m.  St. Anthony is back in action Saturday against Hillsboro at 6:30 p.m.

The tourney continues Tuesday and St. Anthony faces Decatur Eisenhower at 6:30 p.m. The Friday, November 25 game will have St. Anthony meeting Taylorville at 8 p.m. The Bulldogs finish out the round robin tourney Saturday, November 26 with a 5 p.m. game against Jacksonville.

Several area teams will be taking part in the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thanksgiving Tournament.

Included in the meet are the host squad, Neoga, Dieterich, Brownstown/St. Elmo, Sandoval and Ramsey.

The round robin meet opens Tuesday and will run Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26.

Salem Thanksgiving Tournament

Teutopolis will be taking part in an eight-team field at the 16th Annual Salem Wildcat Thanksgiving Tournament which actually gets underway today.

Two games are on tap today but Teutopolis won't compete until Friday, November 18 against Belleville Althoff at 6:30 p.m.

The Wooden Shoes then take on Carlyle at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 19 and will face Bethalto Civic Memorial at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, November 19.

Pana Tournament

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will be the lone area squad competing in the Pana Tournament.

The meet begins this Friday with Central A&M against Athens at 6 p.m. and Okaw Valley taking on Pana at 7:30 at Pana High School.

At the junior high school, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg faces Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 6 p.m. followed by Mattoon against Williamsville at 7:30.

The tournament continues Saturday with eight games. The meet will then lay off until Friday, November 25 with four games and finish out Saturday, November 26 with four more.
