Shoes Open Girls Season With Win, Hahn Becomes South Central All-Time Leading Scorer

SULLIVAN -- Teutopolis High School successfully opened the 2016-17 girls basketball season with a victory over Sullivan Monday evening.
The Wooden Shoes ran off to a 25-5 opening quarter lead and got the game over with quickly. The Shoes led 26-15 at halftime.
Five players connected for double figures. J. Bueker led the way with 19 points followed by Sandschafer with 12, Drees, Michels and Niemerg with 10 each. Sandschafer led in rebounds with eight while J. Bueker added five and had three steals.
Sullivan was led by Darush with 17.

At Beecher City
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed South Central 44-39 despite the fact the Cougars' Abby Hahn became the school's all-time leading scorer.
The two teams were tied at 10-10 after the opening quarter. CHBC moved ahead 23-15 at halftime then had to hold off the Cougars in the second half.
Felicia Johnson led the way for CHBC with 11 points.
South Central was led by Hahn with 26 points. She moved her career point total to 1,057 to become the all-time leading scorer for South Central.

Altamont picked up an opening season victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 54-41 Monday evening.
The Indians held a 19-10 opening quarter lead but WSS came back to pull within 29-27 at halftime. The Indians then had an 11-4 third period run and outscored the Hatchets 14-10 in the final quarter.
Keidron Duckwitz and Leah Mayhaus provided the one-two scoring punch for the winners with 14 points each.
The Hatchets were led by Megan Schlechte with 19 and Nikki Trussell with 16.

Mount Olive took a 24-3 opening quarter lead and never looked back. The winners had four players hit double digits, Brianna Heuke with 19, Jill Viehaus with 13, Zoe Murphy with 10 and Madison Ballman with 10.
BSE was led by Wilhour with 15.
