MOUNT VERNON -- Effingham and Casey Mount Vernon exchanged wins Monday evening in boys junior high basketball.
Casey Mount Vernon won the seventh-grade game 68-37 taking a 27-14 halftime lead. Effingham was led by Pals with 10 points as the Hearts drop to 0-1.
In the eighth-grade game, the Mustangs held a 32-22 halftime lead. Mount Vernon came back to pull within 43-41 going into the final quarter and the Mustangs then took off with a 22-6 run for the 65-47victory.
Duncan tallied 26 and Wolfe 24 for the Mustangs. Duncan also had 12 rebounds while Wolfe had nine. N. Thompson had four steals. The Mustangs are 1-0 while Mount Vernon drops to 4-2.

At St. Anthony
St. Anthony's seventh-grade team dropped its home opener to Sigel St. Michael Monday, 42-19 while the eighth-grade squad picked up a 38-18 victory.
In seventh-grade play, St. Michael outscored the Bullpups 17-1 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Angelo Mendell tallied seven to lead the Bullpups. Brody Niebrugge led the team in rebounds with six. The Bullpups dropped to 2-1.
St. Michael was led by Croy with 24 points.
In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony picked up a 38-18 victory. The Bullpups held an 18-6 halftime lead and continued to remain in control the rest of the way.
Moore tallied 11 and Wlash 10 for the winners. The Sharpshooters were led by Walk and Croy with six each.

At Altamont
Altamont and North Clay (Louisville) picked up a victory each Monday.
North Clay claimed the seventh-grade game 27-12. L. Dawkins led the way with eight points. Altamont was led by Suckow with six.
In the eighth-grade game, Altamont's Braden Baucum tallied 20 and Brennan Abendroth 17 as the squad won 44-32. North Clay was led by Bible with 17.

Teutopolis handed Mattoon two losses in B competition.
T-town was a 46-20 winner in seventh-grade play. Collin Magee, Cade Buehnerkemper and Sam Koester tallied eight points each in even scoring for the Shoes.
In the eighth-grade contest, T-town was a 59-15 winner, zipping out to a 32-8 halftime lead. Kremer and Probst scored 10 points each while Niebrugge led the way with 13.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade game 48-24. The winners took a 38-13 halftime lead. Schafer tallied 17 and Meinhart 15 for the winners. Dieterich was led by Britton with seven.
In eighth-grade play, Dieterich won 36-13. Hunzinger led the way for the winners with 11 while Will tallied 10. Jasper County was led by Geier with six.
