The Effingham St. Anthony seventh-grade basketball team came away with two victories and the championship of the Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Bullpups advanced to the championship game thanks to an opening win over St. Elmo/Brownstown, 56-6. Nine of the 11 Bullpups dressed scored in the game led by Josh Blanchette with 12 points on six of nine shooting and Seth Williams with 10 off the bench, going five for seven from the floor. Williams led the team with eight rebounds and Blanchette collected seven.
In the opener, Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor defeated Ramsey 40-24. SSW held Ramsey scoreless to step out to a 15-0 opening quarter lead. Ramsey pulled within 18-10 at halftime but SSW had a 22-14 second half run.
Wernsing tallied 14 and Vonderheide 10 for the winners.
The Bullpups then defeated the host Stew-Stras/Windsor team, 51-28 to win the tourney. Angelo Mendella led St. Anthony with 13 points going six of 12 from the floor including a three-point basket. Blanchette followed up his strong opening game with a 12 point effort and added seven boards. Kyle Stewart rounded out a trio of Bullpups in double figures with 11 points including a three-pointer. Brody Niebrugge contributed six rebounds along with six points.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis handed Centralia a 44-42 loss in seventh-grade action on the Wooden Shoes homecourt Saturday.
The Shoes broke a 6-6 opening quarter tie with a 17-14 second period then held off Centralia in the second half. Bushur led the way with 18 points while M. Althoff and K. Althoff contributed nine each.
The seventh-graders then took on Champaign Jefferson and fell to the visiting squad 46-32. Jefferson edged ahead at halftime 23-22 then had a 23-10 second half run. The Shoes had only one player in double figures, Bushur with 10.
In eighth-grade action, T-town downed Centralia 55-48. The Shoes were led by Addis with 20 and M. Deters with 15.
In the second contest, T-town picked up a 36-23 win over Champaign Jefferson.
The Shoes held a 20-16 halftime lead then had a 16-7 second half. Addis scored 13 and M. Deters nine for the winners.

Jasper County hosted Marshall and split with the visitors in action Saturday.
Jasper County was a 37-22 winner in seventh-grade play, taking a 22-4 halftime lead and never looking back.
Meinhart and Schafer provided the one-two scoring punch with 17 points each as the squad improved to 2-0.
In the eighth-grade contest, Marshall was the team who jumped out early, taking a 30-3 halftime lead and going on for a 54-19 victory.
Jasper County was led by Einhorn with 18 as the squad dropped to 0-2.

At Central City
Odin claimed a 54-45 victory over North Clay (Louisville) at the Central City Shootout Saturday.
Odin held a 30-15 halftime lead but only scored two in the third period while North Clay tallied nine and pulled withint 32-24. Odin then connected on its free throws in the final quarter to hold on for the win.
North Clay was led by Bible and Anthony with 12 points each.
