Effingham and Charleston split junior high school girls basketball wins Thursday evening.
The Mustangs won the seventh-grade encounter 28-19 to improve to 6-2 on the season. Duncan tallied 10 while Schaefer and Sowell had eight each.
In eighth-grade action, Charleston claimed a 51-19 victory. Diveley led EJHS with 15 points as the Mustangs dropped to 3-5.

At Dieterich
Dieterich and Sigel St. Michael advanced in winner bracket play at the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.
Dieterich beat Altamont 44-39 in double overtime. The two squads played to a 34-34 tie in regulation. In the opening overtime, the two teams tallied five points each. Dieterich then blanked Altamont 5-0 in the second overtime.
Oschwald led the winners with 13 points while Boerngen added 11. Altamont was led by McManaway with 19.
Sigel St. Michael handed Effingham Sacred Heart a 19-14 loss. The Sharpshooters held a 9-6 opening half lead then had an 8-2 third quarter run.
Fearday tallied six while Niebrugge had five for the winners. The Shamrocks were led by Karolewicz with 10.
In consolation bracket action, Altamont fell to Neoga 32-26 in overtime. The two teams played to a 26-26 regulation tie. In the overtime period. Neoga had 6-0 run for the victory.
Neoga was led by Dunn with 21 points. Altamont was led by McManaway with 19.
The tournament continues today with a consy bracket game featuring North Clay (Louisville) and Sacred Heart at 5:30 p.m. followed by winner bracket action with Dieterich taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 6:45 and Brownstown/St. Elmo against Sigel St. Michael at 8.
The winners from tonight's games will play for the consolation championship at 9 a.m. Saturday, third place at 10:15 a.m. and the championship at 11:30 a.m.

At Palestine
Jasper County nabbed two victories over Palestine in action Thursday.
Jasper County was a 14-8 winner in seventh-grade play. Jasper County led 7-4 at halftime before Palestine tied in the third quarter. Jasper County then had a 7-1 final period run. Amber Russell tallied seven points to lead the winners.
In eighth-grade play, Jasper County claimed a 29-12 victory. Jasper County took a 12-0 first quarter lead.
Whitney Zumbahlen scored eight for the winners.
